Beginning with her professional operatic debut at age 21 as Cherubino in <strong><em>Le nozze di Figaro<\/em><\/strong> at the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, the \u201cwondrous and powerful\u201d (<em>NYT)<\/em> mezzo-soprano is constantly in demand at the world\u2019s top opera companies. Following the release of her second album <strong><em>freezing<\/em><\/strong> for Deutsche Grammophon, she was named the 2025 recipient of Opus Klassik\u2019s \u201cFemale Singer of the Year\u201d award, one of classical music\u2019s most coveted honors.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2025\/26 season, Emily D\u2019Angelo returns to London\u2019s Royal Opera House in the title role of Handel\u2019s <strong><em>Ariodante<\/em><\/strong> in a new production by Jetske Mijnssen and conducted by Stefano Montanari. Appearing again at the Vienna State Opera, she returns to the role of Sesto in <strong><em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em><\/strong> led by Pablo Heras-Casado and newly staged by director Jan Lauwers.<\/p>\n<p>On the cusp of a robust concert season, D\u2019Angelo makes highly anticipated debuts with the London Symphony Orchestra in Elgar\u2019s <strong><em>The Dream of Gerontius <\/em><\/strong>under the baton of Sir Antonio Pappano, and with the Philadelphia Orchestra as soloist in Leonard Bernstein\u2019s <strong><em>Symphony No. 1 \u201cJeremiah\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, led by Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin. She returns to Spain for two of Mahler\u2019s magnificent symphonies: with the Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra she is the mezzo-soprano soloist in <strong><em>Symphony No. 2 \u201cResurrection\u201d <\/em><\/strong>and with Orquesta Ciudad de Granada she is heard as soloist in <strong><em>Symphony No. 3<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em> Additionally in Spain she is heard in Oviedo in Rossini\u2019s cantata <strong><em>Giovanna d\u2019Arco<\/em><\/strong> and in de Falla\u2019s <strong><em>El amor brujo<\/em><\/strong>. The mezzo sings the opening performance of Salzburg\u2019s Mozartwoche 2026 with The Danish Chamber Orchestra and Adam Fischer, presenting Handel, Monteverdi and Mozart arias. She reprises this program with Mo Fischer in Copenhagen. Under the auspices of the Whitsun Festival at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, she reprises one of her signature roles, Octavian in <strong><em>Der Rosenkavalier<\/em><\/strong>, in a concert version of the opera with the SWR Symphonie-Orchester. Additionally, she continues her collaboration with pianist Sophia Munoz in recitals at Hanzas Perons Cultural Center in Riga and at the Ammolite Opera in Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>In recent seasons, Emily D\u2019Angelo has made a host of widely acclaimed debuts, cementing her status as one of the opera world\u2019s most in-demand artists. D\u2019Angelo opened the 2024\/25 season at the Metropolitan Opera starring as Jess, the leading role in two-time Tony Award\u2013winning composer Jeanine Tesori&#8217;s opera <strong><em>Grounded<\/em><\/strong>. The mezzo first created the role of Jess in the world premiere with Washington National Opera in 2023. Following her company debut with the Berlin State Opera as Cherubino in\u00a0<strong><em>Le nozze di Figaro<\/em><\/strong>, she subsequently made an auspicious role debut as Octavian in\u00a0<strong><em>Der Rosenkavalier<\/em><\/strong> and returned to Idamante in Mozart\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Idomeneo<\/em><\/strong>. Her artistic bond with the Vienna State Opera includes her house debut as Dorabella\u00a0in <strong><em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em><\/strong>, followed by performances as Octavian in\u00a0<strong><em>Der Rosenkavalier<\/em><\/strong>, and as Donna Elvira in <strong><em>Don Giovanni<\/em><\/strong>. With the Bayerische Staatsoper, she has been heard as Cherubino in <strong><em>Le nozze di Figaro<\/em><\/strong>, Idamante in <strong><em>Idomeneo<\/em><\/strong>, and as Juno in Claus Guth\u2019s new staging of\u00a0<strong><em>Semele<\/em><\/strong>. With London\u2019s Royal Opera D\u2019Angelo made her house and role debut as Sesto in\u00a0<strong><em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em><\/strong> and was swiftly re-invited for another role debut, Ruggiero in a new Richard Jones production of Handel\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Alcina<\/em><\/strong>. For the Paris Opera\u2019s Palais Garnier, she gave her first performances in the title role of <strong><em>Ariodante<\/em><\/strong> in Robert Carsen\u2019s staging, as Sesto in Laurent Pelly\u2019s <strong><em>Giulio Cesare<\/em><\/strong>, and as Siebel in Gounod\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Faust<\/em><\/strong>, in tandem with appearances as Rosina in\u00a0<strong><em>Il barbiere di Siviglia<\/em><\/strong> for her company debut. A frequent guest at the Metropolitan Opera, the mezzo-soprano has been heard as Cherubino\u00a0and in a role debut as Prince Charming in an English-language presentation of Massenet\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Cendrillon<\/em><\/strong>, broadcast to audiences worldwide in\u00a0Live in HD. She sang Ottavia <strong>in\u00a0<em>L\u2019incoronazione di Poppea<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0for her debut at the Z\u00fcrich Opera and made both her role and company debut as Angelina in <strong><em>La cenerentola<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0with Semperoper Dresden. With Teatro alla Scala, her first performances for the company were as Dorabella in <strong><em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em><\/strong> followed by her role debut as Donna Elvira in Robert Carsen\u2019s production of <strong><em>Don Giovanni<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During her tenure as a member of the Metropolitan Opera\u2019s Lindemann Young Artist Program, Emily D\u2019Angelo performed the role of Annio in\u00a0<strong><em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em><\/strong>,\u00a0Second Lady in <strong><em>The Magic Flute<\/em><\/strong> (company debut), and Soeur Mathilde in\u00a0<strong><em>Dialogues des Carm\u00e9lites<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em> conducted by music director\u00a0Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin and\u00a0broadcast\u00a0in movie theaters across the world as part of the Met\u2019s Live in HD series.\u00a0She was Dorabella in\u00a0<strong><em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte <\/em><\/strong>for the Santa Fe Opera and the Canadian Opera Company, where she has also appeared as Rosina in\u00a0<strong><em>Il barbiere di Siviglia <\/em><\/strong><em>\u2013 <\/em>a role she debuted at the Glimmerglass Festival in a new production by Francesca Zambello in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Emily D\u2019Angelo is a keen recitalist and regularly performs in storied concert halls, collaborating with the world\u2019s most acclaimed orchestras, ensembles, and conductors. She recently made her debut at the BBC Proms in London\u2019s Royal Albert Hall, singing Mahler\u2019s <strong><em>Symphony No. 2 \u201cResurrection\u201d<\/em><\/strong> with the Hall\u00e9 Orchestra, and joined Yannick N\u00e9zet-Seguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe for two concerts of Mozart\u2019s <strong><em>Reqiuem <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Great Mass in C minor K. 427 <\/em><\/strong>at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Additionally, the mezzo-soprano starred in concert with tenor Freddie De Tommaso and the Orquesta Sinf\u00f3nica de Puerto Rico and appeared as the soloist in an all-Haydn program with Tonk\u00fcnstler Orchester at the Auditorium Grafenegg in Austria. She was featured at the annual Advent concert of the ZDF, German national television, with Staatskapelle Dresden under Riccardo Minasi, and in her native Canada she performed Handel\u2019s <strong><em>Messiah<\/em><\/strong> with Orchestre M\u00e9tropolitain at Basilique Notre-Dame de Montr\u00e9al under the baton of Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin. Emily D\u2019Angelo was the Spotlight Artist at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in the 2023-24 season presenting Alban Berg\u2019s <strong><em>Sieben fr\u00fche Lieder <\/em><\/strong>and the orchestral suite of her Deutsche Grammophon debut album <strong><em>enargeia<\/em><\/strong>. On the anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart&#8217;s death, she sang his <strong><em>Requiem<\/em><\/strong> with the Camerata Salzburg, followed by performances of the work at the Salzburg Summer Festival under the baton of Manfred Honeck. She debuted Alma Mahler\u2019s <strong><em>Sieben Lieder <\/em><\/strong>under the musical direction of Anja Bihlmaier in Madrid and twice was heard in Beethoven\u2019s <strong><em>Symphony No. 9<\/em><\/strong>: with the Handel and Haydn Society led by Rapha\u00ebl Pichon and the RSB orchestra under conductor Vladimir Jurowski. With the English Concert and Harry Bicket, D\u2019Angelo made her debut at Carnegie Hall\u2019s Stern Auditorium in the title role of Handel\u2019s <strong><em>Serse, <\/em><\/strong>with further concert performances in the UK and Spain in 2023. In 2024 she gave her solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall and recently returned to New York\u2019s Park Avenue Armory, performing songs of her debut album <strong><em>enargeia<\/em><\/strong>. She has presented recitals together with pianist Sophia Munoz at The Edinburgh International and at Konserthuset Stockholm. She has further appeared in solo recitals under the auspices of the Park Avenue Armory, the New York Morgan Library Recital Series, Toronto\u2019s Koerner Hall, Los Angeles\u2019 Song Fest Recital Series, the Santa Fe Festival of Song, Teatro del Lago in Chile, and The Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach. In 2021, she recorded a recital program at the Kennedy Center for Vocal Arts DC, which continues to stream online via Deutsche Grammophon\u2019s DG Stage+ platform.<\/p>\n<p>Additional performances have included diverse repertoire such as Respighi\u2019s <strong><em>Il tramonto<\/em><\/strong> with Quartet 212 at the Princeton University Concert Series, Stravinsky\u2019s <strong><em>Pulcinella <\/em><\/strong>with the Montclair Orchestra, the world premiere of Ana Sokolovi\u0107&#8217;s song cycle\u00a0<strong><em>dawn always begins in the bones<\/em><\/strong><em>,<\/em>\u00a0Unsuk Chin&#8217;s <strong><em>snagS&amp;Snarls,<\/em><\/strong> and the Canadian premiere of Matthew Aucoin&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><em>The Orphic Moment<\/em><\/strong> at the Toronto Contemporary Music Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Emily D\u2019Angelo is a Deutsche Grammophon exclusive recording artist. Her debut album <strong><em>enargeia <\/em><\/strong>presents music from the 12<sup>th<\/sup> and 21<sup>st<\/sup> centuries by composers Hildegard von Bingen, Hildur Gu\u00f0nad\u00f3ttir, Missy Mazzoli and Sarah Kirkland Snider, and is described by the artist herself as a \u201ca soundworld, bound together by the multisensory ancient concept of <em>enargeia.\u201d <\/em>\u00a0It was named one of the 50 best albums of 2021 by NPR, the best Canadian classical album of 2021 by the CBC, was featured on NPR&#8217;s 100 best songs of 2021, and received JUNO and Gramophone awards in 2022. In 2024 D\u2019Angelo released her much-anticipated second album <strong><em>freezing<\/em><\/strong> produced by Deutsche Grammophon. <strong><em>freezing<\/em><\/strong> features music by Dowland, Purcell, Kod\u00e1ly, Philip Glass, Randy Newman and Jeanine Tesori, among many others. The album comprises 17 songs drawn from the folk tradition, art song and beyond. The mezzo-soprano is joined on <strong><em>freezing<\/em><\/strong> by Sophia Mu\u00f1oz (piano), Bruno Helstroffer (electric guitar) and Jonas Niederstadt (bass guitar, synth, percussion).<\/p>\n<p>D&#8217;Angelo can be heard performing Ralph Vaughan Williams&#8217;\u00a0<strong><em>Serenade to Music<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>in a Grammy-nominated and JUNO Award-winning live recording with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra; in excerpts from <strong><em>West Side Story<\/em><\/strong> on Decca\u2019s \u201cThe Magic of Mantovani\u201d; and in Ravel\u2019s <strong><em>Cinq m\u00e9lodies populaires grecques<\/em> <\/strong>with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center on their album \u201cOdyssey,\u201d filmed and recorded at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center in Athens for the first ever international production of PBS \u201cLive From Lincoln Center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Angelo has triumphed in numerous international competitions, winning first prize in the Metropolitan Opera Competition, the Canadian Opera Company Competition, the George London Foundation Competition, the Gerda Lissner Competition, Innsbruck\u2019s Cesti Competition, and the Operalia Competition, where a historic win included First Prize, the Zarzuela Prize, the Birgit Nilsson Prize and Audience Prize. She has also received prizes from the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition, the Concours musical international de\u00a0Montr\u00e9al\u00a0(CMIM). The mezzo-soprano is the first and only vocalist to be honored with the Leonard Bernstein Award from the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. D\u2019Angelo was a 2020 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist, one of Canada&#8217;s &#8220;Top 30 Under 30&#8221; Classical Musicians, and WQXR NYC Public Radio\u2019s &#8220;40 Under 40&#8221; singers to watch.
