Since making his European debut in the title role of <strong><em>Gianni di Parigi<\/em><\/strong> by Donizetti at the Festival della Valle d&#8217;Itria di Martina Franca, the tenor is a frequent guest in the world\u2019s leading opera houses and festivals, which include Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich, Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Gen\u00e8ve, Bayerische Staatsoper, Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2025\/26 season, the tenor makes a remarkable role debut as Nemorino, first at Stadttheater Gie\u00dfen and later at the Vienna State Opera in Otto Schenk\u2019s celebrated production of <strong><em>L\u2019elisir D\u2019amore<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the concert stage the tenor makes his highly anticipated debut with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Mozart\u2019s <strong><em>Great Mass in C minor <\/em><\/strong>under the baton of Thomas S\u00f8nderg\u00e5rd.<\/p>\n<p>Recent highlights include his debut as Florestano in Pa\u00ebr\u2019s rarely performed\u00a0<strong><em>Leonora<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Chicago Opera Theater, in the first fully staged production using the B\u00e4renreiter edition under Dame Jane Glover and Lawrence Edelson, as well as the title role in\u00a0<strong><em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 first at Salzburg\u2019s\u00a0Mozartwoche\u00a0in a staging by Rolando Villaz\u00f3n, and later with the\u00a0Washington Concert Opera\u00a0under Antony Walker.<\/p>\n<p>Two roles have become cornerstones of the tenor\u2019s repertoire:\u00a0Don Ramiro\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em>La cenerentola<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Almaviva\u00a0in\u00a0<strong><em>Il barbiere di Siviglia<\/em><\/strong>. Rocha has sung Don Ramiro notably at the\u00a0Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Gen\u00e8ve,\u00a0Vienna State Opera,\u00a0Seattle Opera,\u00a0Op\u00e9ra de Monte-Carlo, and the\u00a0Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, among others. A highlight of his career was a world tour of<strong>\u00a0<em>La cenerentola<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>with mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Rossini\u2019s masterpiece. As Almaviva, Rocha has appeared at many of the world\u2019s major theaters, including the\u00a0Vienna State Opera,\u00a0the Los Angeles Opera,\u00a0Op\u00e9ra National de Paris,\u00a0Teatro Real Madrid,\u00a0Palau de les Arts Reina Sof\u00eda,\u00a0Bayerische Staatsoper,\u00a0Semperoper Dresden,\u00a0Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich,\u00a0Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, the\u00a0Salzburg Festival and on tour through Switzerland with Op\u00e9ra de Monte-Carlo.<\/p>\n<p>A frequent guest at the\u00a0Vienna State Opera, Rocha has performed Don Ottavio in Barrie Kosky\u2019s new\u00a0<strong><em>Don Giovanni<\/em><\/strong>, Ferrando in\u00a0<strong><em>Cos\u00ec fan tutte<\/em><\/strong>, Ernesto in\u00a0<strong><em>Don Pasquale<\/em><\/strong>, Lindoro in\u00a0<strong><em>L\u2019italiana in Algeri<\/em><\/strong> as well as the signature roles Almaviva and Don Ramiro. His portrayal of Don Ottavio also took him to the\u00a0Op\u00e9ra de Monte-Carlo\u00a0during the Mozart \u00e0 Monaco festival. With the company he additionally debuted as Rinuccio in\u00a0<strong><em>Gianni Schicchi<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the\u00a0Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Gen\u00e8ve, Rocha has been a central figure in Donizetti\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>Tudor Trilogy<\/em><\/strong>, debuting the title role in\u00a0<strong><em>Roberto Devereux<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and reprising Percy in\u00a0<strong><em>Anna Bolena<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>and Robert Dudley in\u00a0<strong><em>Maria Stuarda<\/em><\/strong>. His Donizetti repertoire elsewhere includes Ernesto in\u00a0<strong><em>Don Pasquale<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino,\u00a0Teatro dell\u2019Opera di Roma, and the\u00a0Verona Philharmonic Theater; Riccardo Percy in the original 1830 version of\u00a0<strong><em>Anna Bolena<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Op\u00e9ra de Lausanne; and the title role in\u00a0<strong><em>Gianni di Parigi<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Wexford Festival Opera.<\/p>\n<p>With\u00a0Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich, Rocha has sung many leading bel canto roles, including Lindoro (<strong><em>L\u2019italiana in Algeri<\/em><\/strong><em>)<\/em>, G\u00e9rald\u00a0(<strong><em>Lakm\u00e9<\/em><\/strong><em>)<\/em>, the title role in\u00a0<strong><em>Le comte Ory<\/em><\/strong>, Belfiore\u00a0(<strong><em>Il viaggio a Reims<\/em><\/strong><em>)<\/em>, Don Narciso\u00a0(<strong><em>Il turco in Italia<\/em><\/strong><em>)<\/em>, and Almaviva.<\/p>\n<p>Further highlights include his performances as Don Narciso at the\u00a0Teatro alla Scala,\u00a0Teatro Regio di Torino, and\u00a0Teatro Real Madrid; as Belfiore at the\u00a0Semperoper Dresden\u00a0and the\u00a0Bolshoi Theatre; as Giacomo V in\u00a0<strong><em>La donna del lago<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0at the\u00a0Salzburg Pfingstfestspiele\u00a0and the\u00a0Op\u00e9ra de Marseille; and as Lindoro at the\u00a0Gran Teatre del Liceu\u00a0and the\u00a0Salzburg Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Among his other bel canto successes are Elvino in <strong><em>La sonnambula<\/em><\/strong>, sung at the Op\u00e9ra de Nice C\u00f4te d\u2019Azur and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, as well as Arturo in<strong> <em>I Puritani<\/em><\/strong> at the Stuttgart Opernhaus.<\/p>\n<p>Rocha\u2019s versatility has also led him into French repertoire, with roles including Nadir in <strong><em>Bizet\u2019s Les p\u00eacheurs de perles<\/em><\/strong> at the Op\u00e9ra de Nancy, G\u00e9rald in Delibes\u2019s <strong><em>Lakm\u00e9<\/em><\/strong> at Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich, Lyonel in Hal\u00e9vy\u2019s<strong>\u00a0<em>L\u2019\u00e9clair<\/em> <\/strong>at Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de Gen\u00e8ve and Leopold in Hal\u00e9vy\u2019s <strong><em>La Juive<\/em><\/strong> at the Bayerische Staatsoper.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Rivera, Uruguay and educated in piano, choral and orchestra conducting at the Montevideo University School of Music, he studied singing with Alba Tonelli, Beatriz Pazos and Raquel Pierotti. After moving to Italy in 2008, he continued his studies with the tenor Salvatore Fisichella and the Rossini tenor Rockwell Blake.
